The Fernery Lodge

The Fernery in the Tsitsikamma region of the garden route of South Africa, is one of the establishments with the most interesting history. The estate on which The Fernery with its 4-star lodge and chalets are built, is the hub of the fern export industry to Europe. Ferns of varying species and sizes are indigenous to this part of the Tsitsikamma near the Stormsriver and it is a special treat to visit the nursery.

The Fernery offers a luxury 4-star lodge, with six deluxe suites, where you can enjoy a 4-course dinner in the Otters Holt Restaurant at the Lodge. The view is spectacular: the forests of the Tsitsikamma, or the vast Indian Ocean off the Garden Route of South Africa. No expense has been spared to ensure the ultimate luxury of the guests. Each suite includes underfloor heating, heated towel rails, digital safes mini bar fridge, percale linen (and mohair blankets for the chilly winter nights) and thick bath robes.

The Fernery Chalets offer luxury self-catering accommodation with equally bewitching views, for couples or families. Each chalet is completely private, with views of the forests, its own deck and log fire. One of the novel features of the Fernery chalets is an eight man jacuzzi overhanging the Sandrift River Gorge in the Tsitsikamma Forest. Babysitters can be arranged if mom and dad want to enjoy a quiet dinner. Informal meals can be delivered to your chalet, and you can even order an informal braai for you to prepare on your braai deck.

There are a number of mountain walks where you can explore the natural beauty of the Storms River region and Garden Route. Mountain pools, water falls, even a dam with bass for the anglers.
