KAOKOLAND AND DAMARALAND

Among the many attractions West of Khorixas are the Petrified Forest and Twyfelfontein with its superb collection of over 2400 rock engravings. Nearby are the Burnt Mountain and the Organ Pipes, a series of angular columns of dolerite exposed in a dry river bed. The Petrified Forest is a facinating glimpse of the past in this barren world.

Also of interest is the 80 km long Ugab Terrace and the Vingerklip, a 35 m high pillar of conglomerate rock.

West of Etosha lies Damaraland and to the North West, Kaokoland. Kaokoland is only accessible by four-wheel drive vehicle. It is a very remote, but interesting area. Be on the watch out for the Desert Elephants and Black Rhino. Make sure that you experience something of the unique culture of remote tribes like the Himbas.
