We provide the highest possible standard of accommodation and facilities for all our guests.
The reception area, bar, restaurant, lodge grounds and activities are open to all, but
to satisfy the diverse needs of travellers in this remote area, we currently provide three various
levels of overnight accommodation :-
• Air-Conditioned Luxury Bungalows Besides its exceptional accommodation, Kunene River Lodge offers an outstanding range of land- and water-based outdoor activities to suit those with a thirst for adventure. Established as long ago as 1997, the White-Water Expedition Centre has earned itself an enviable reputation as one of the foremost Namibian rafting adventure operations. Quad Bike Adventures offers you a unique opportunity to explore the north-west extremity of Namibia - the real Kaokoland where time is so unimportant it almost stands still. You'll be taken into remote and almost inaccessible areas where you can experience nature at its most pristine - untouched by modern man - and discover first-hand how it evolves, shaping this beautiful and stunning landscape. You'll have ample time to explore the flora and fauna as well as the culture of the Himba people. Our guides are experienced in the terrain and conditions, and trained in first aid and dealing with the unexpected. Cultural Visit to a Local Himba Village Kaokoland is home to a population of some 12,000 Himba people - pastoralist herdsmen who travel with their goats and cattle from one waterhole to another as the seasons or conditions dictate. The recent introduction of a Conservancy in the area will benefit the local people, with one of its long-term aims being to encourage the re-introduction of the wildlife which was sadly destroyed in the 1980s during the Angolan - South African conflict. By contributing via the new tourism tax, our guests are now assisting the local population to achieve some of their ambitions and to safeguard their individuality and lifestyle for the future. Jewellery, adornments and grooming are all important elements in Himba culture, with the women spending much of their time on beauty care, including a unique full-body skin treatment which gives their flesh its characteristically intense, glowing red-brown colour. The Himba people are proud yet friendly. With their permission we are allowed to visit a local village (kraal) to gain a unique insight into their history, culture, traditions and way of life which, unlike so many others elsewhere, survives virtually unchanged into the 21st century. |
