The area surrounding Keetmanshoop is renown for its Quiver tree forests, prehistoric fish fossils and dolorite rock formations eroded into weird and wonderful shapes through wind and weather. Traveling north towards Windhoek from Keetmanshoop, the volcanic rim of Brukkaros is a well-known landmark. These endless gravel plains and vast distances have a magic of their own. Hardap Dam resort, just north of Mariental lies on high cliffs overlooking the country's largest dam. In addition to being a popular angling and water sport destination, the game park offers visitors an opportunity to see a variety of game species in their natural habitat. Grunau, a farming community, and Noordoewer on the South African border, are both very small towns, but offer good self-catering accommodation. Keetmanshoop is the capital of the Southern Region of Namibia and offers a variety of hotels, lodges and self-catering accommodation. |
